Mince Pies

  • 225g/8oz(1/2 lb)  plain flour
  • 160g/6oz hard margarine
  • ½ cup of ice cold water


  • 1 jar of homemade mince meat or good quality from a shop


Pies should be baked at 210C/190C fan-oven/Gas mark 7 for approx 18-20 mins,

Sieve the flour into a bowl and grate in the margarine by dipping the margarine into the flour and then grating. Now flick the margarine around with a palette knife and add the water. Bring together and place in the fridge for 20 mins to relax

This pastry may be used for tarts, mince pies and savoury pies

After 20 mins take  the pastry out of the fridge and roll out , Use this to make your mince pies 

Cut out 12 large circles and12 a little smaler. Place  in the muffin tins fill with the mince meat place the smaller pastry piece of pastry on top and brush with an egg wash made of 1 egg and 2tbsp milk mixed  together .

Bake for the required time and serve with whipped cream and /or custard
