DIY Dairy Free Milk

Finn Ni Fhaolain

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of pre-soaked nuts (such as almonds) or 1 cup of GF oats (great for nut free folk as well as better for the environment as they’re grown in Ireland)
  • 1-2 tsp maple syrup or coconut blossom sugar
  • 1 pinch of sea salt
  • 2-3 cups of water
  • Glass bottle or jars to keep it in, big bowl, clean cotton pillow case or muslin, funnel if using narrow necked bottle

Method

To make this epic dairy free milk is super simple. You take all your ingredients and put them in a container suitable for using with a hand blender (one of the ones you use for soup). Blend till smooth and then strain through the clean pillow case into a big bowl or directly into your containers if it wont be too messy. You can add more oats/less water to make a thicker consistency, leave out the sweetness whatever you like to make it your own! Using oats and making your own oat milk is not only a great way to use a sustainable crop that’s grown in Ireland its also a great way to cut down on single use plastics and tetrapak!
