Shane Smith is an award-winning Irish pastry chef, culinary consultant and bestselling author with over 26 years’ experience working in some of Ireland’s finest hotels, restaurants and bakeries, as well as internationally. Originally from County Cavan, Shane is passionate about sharing his love of baking and helping home bakers gain confidence in the kitchen.
A familiar face on Irish television, Shane has been cooking on screen for over a decade and is a regular chef on RTÉ One’s Today Show, where his approachable style and creative recipes have made him a firm favourite with viewers. He also lectures in Culinary Arts and works with food producers and hospitality businesses across Ireland, developing recipes and helping businesses grow their product offerings.
Earlier this year, Shane published his debut cookbook, Loaf Tin Bakes (Gill Books), a collection of 80 sweet and savoury recipes designed around the humble loaf tin. The book became an instant success, debuting at No. 1 on the overall Irish bestseller chart across all categories and has remained one of Ireland’s bestselling cookbooks.
As Brand Ambassador for Gem, Shane combines recipe development, food styling and photography with his passion for education and innovation. He also hosts a thriving online cookery school and demonstrates at many of Ireland’s leading food festivals, inspiring thousands of people each year to rediscover the joy of home baking.
Shane is delighted to be returning to Savour Kilkenny, where he’ll share delicious seasonal recipes, practical baking tips and plenty of inspiration for bakers of every skill level.
